AD Systems is pleased to announce the inclusion of our innovative Jet Fuel Thermal Oxidation Stability analyzer TO10 in the Table 1 of ASTM D3241. The updated test method D3241-24 has been recently published by ASTM and available on-line.
The testing laboratories and refineries can now officially use the TO10 model to certify Jet Fuels in according to ASTM D1655, D7566 and other specifications.
The research centres developing new generation of Sustainable Jet Fuels (SAF) will appreciate the versatility of the TO10 covering very large temperature range and suitable for non-conventional samples with increased viscosity or density.
The new equipment is designed to bring the precision of this important test method to the next, till now, unmatched level. All critical test parameters were carefully studied and state-of-the art engineering solutions were implemented into the TO10 to reduce errors, improve accuracy and reliability.
If referee automatic tube rater ITR – DR10 (ASTM D3241 Annex 2) is connected, the transfer of heater tube scan is automatic and the D3241 test report will be completed with the deposit thickness profile. The TO10 is well suited for any type of application from routine testing to research work on sustainable aviation fuels.

Recently published ASTM D7157-23 “Determination of Intrinsic Stability of Asphaltene-Containing Residues, Heavy Fuel Oils, and Crude Oils” includes now Procedure B based on the SV10, the first fully automated S-value instrument developed by AD Systems under license TOTALEnergies RC.
The large ILS was conducted in 2022 to define the precision of the novel technique. There were 10 samples covering the scope of the ASTM D7157 standard method (residual distillates: atmospheric residues; vacuum residues; visbreaking residue; heavy fuels and crude oils). The samples set included all product types as per Table 1 . 9 laboratories from France and Europe participated in this study.
The SV10 has demonstrated excellent repeatability and reproducibility, twice better than the legacy analyzer from ROFA France, while maintaining good correlation with historical numbers.
The intrinsic stability (S-value) is an indication of available solvency power of petroleum product, its ability to remain asphaltenes in a colloidal dispersion. The higher the S-value, the less risk of asphaltenes precipitation from the oil.
Beyond the ASTM D7157 standard report (S-value, So, Sa), the SV10 calculates additional values as IN (Insolubility Number) and SBN (Solubility Blending Number), as well as the estimation of stability reserve and blending potential.
These values for crude oils or fuels give essential information for the assessment of their compatibility and blend stability while blended at different ratio.
The SV10 is the perfect analytical tool to increase efficiency of refining and blending operations.
